Tentaсle Wars: Capture the bacteria colonies

Another successful flash game in the micro-world setting is Tentacle Wars strategy. It somehow implements the principle of sending the troops from your bases to conquer the enemies, but creatively alters it.

The colony of bacteria can stretch a tentacle, the length of which is determined by the colony's population. When the tentacle touches the enemy colony, the battle begins. The enemy can counter-attack sending his tentacle to stop yours. Both sides then will steadily loose their population, and the one who can stand the higher attrition, wins.

But you can make a single powerful impact, cutting your tentacle close to its root. Then, all the bacteria who had been in it by that moment will rush into the enemy's colony, and decrease its defenses dramatically. If your tentacle is long enough, you can even capture the whole colony.

Another use of the tentacles is to supply your other colonies which suffer population losses or preparing to make the main strike. As the colony gets bigger than 15, additional tentacle can be formed. And after the population of 120 the third one is available. There are 5 levels of the colonies: Spore, Embryo (15+), Pulsar-A (40+), Pulsar-B (80+), Ant (120+) and Predator (170+). The bigger colonies produce bacteria faster.

There are 20 various missions in the game. Quite often you are outnumbered and have to think and make decisions carefully to achieve the victory. Sometimes the mission if followed by the one with the same colonies location but the sides swapped, and you have to win being in the position in which the computer has just lost.

Sometimes the neutral colonies will appear. Don’t do like in Clone wars: don’t wait for the enemy to attack them, but try to strike first, as they have no defenses of their own, and the number of bacteria have to be sent their to gain control is calculated separately for every competitor. But when there are several enemies on the map, it’s often wise to wait till they weaken each other, and only then attack.

Another significant difference from the gameplay of the other strategy sub-genre is that once you capture the colony, it will get some additional population preventing the enemy from immediate taking it back. And one more: the bacteria in the tentacle don’t count as the colony’s population and can’t defend it. So, if your colony with a long stretched tentacle is attacked from another side, cut the tentacle close to its end and return your warriors home to defend it.
